Curing the Valentine’s Day Hangover

02/17/2021

Get productive after your night of romance, self-care, and binge eating chocolate-coated strawberries.

Crusty mascara sealed eyes, laptop uncharged from video chatting all night, chocolate wrappers all around you, and a pounding headache from all the laughs and chats you've had during your Valentine's or Galentine's night.

The day after a night of cheesy one-liners and giggles, constantly complimenting and professing your undying love for each other, thoroughly enjoying the company and the day planned out.

It's now time to brush yourself off of all that lovesickness and get back to the reality of work and stress.

Here are some ways you can get yourself out of the rose-petalled bed and head into a day of productivity!

Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate

Filled with all the bubbles or the soda from the night before, you're prone to wake up with a pounding headache or an uncomfortable gut. Find a way to pour some water into you, and you'll feel a whole lot better now that you're hydrated.

Get Cleaned Up

Scrub makeup wipes over your smudged-up eyeshadow, get all the dishes into the sink, dispose of all those gift wrappers and chocolate boxes, get your gadgets charged up, and finally, get into a long hot shower. Prepare all the material you need for the day as well to minimise any distractions (you know you'll anything to get out of work🙈 )

All Scrubbed Up? Time to Get Productive

You're probably not ready to burst out of your romance-induced bubble, but you wouldn't be reading this if you were not planning to get productive. It's going to be hard to divert yourself from the night of sweet-talking, presents unwrapping, and figuring out which cute picture (out of the thousands you've taken together) to post on Instagram to commemorate your Valentine's Day together!

Start by scribbling down the main things you need to get done ASAP! Either put pen to paper or type down everything onto your phone (it's a great alternative to those who work while on the go).

Get Fuelled Up

Whilst getting your cuppa or your mug of coffee ready, simultaneously start mapping a plan to tackle your entire day. Keep in mind the things you need to get done in time, the errands you have to run, etc. Prepare a nutritious and filling breakfast to get you geared up to tackle the day ahead of you.

Keep Going

You've had a great start, and you're all ready to take on the plan you've set for the day ahead of you. All you need to do is continue ticking off each task for the day. Keep yourself well-fed and hydrated, switch off your social notifications and try stopping yourself from distracted from thinking over the wonderful day you had with your S/O during Valentine's.

Take Your Breaks

Don't work yourself to the point of burnout. Be sure to take sufficient breaks spending the time with yourself and your health. Take a short walk or hit the gym for a quick workout and burn some of that stress. Your physical and mental health matters more than anything. Take a few minutes away from your laptop and try not to overwork yourself.

Don't forget to keep in touch with your boo too! You don't want to switch off all that sweet talk the minute Valentine's Day is over. Valentine's Day shouldn't be treated as a one-time event for the comfortable, smitten-over conversations (unless it was a date gone bad).

Getting back to work after a day of in-house laziness can be draining to think of. But you need to keep pushing yourself out of that comfortable slump and ace those productivity levels! Take it slow and steady and do the best you can......

And don't guilt yourself if you've indulged in another day of self-care either... sometimes it's okay to take more than one day off before facing the reality😉

Take Care and Stay Safe
